Submerged City

The icy water pushed itself over my head as I sunk towards my end. I felt my lungs start to burn, they were screaming for oxygen I would never let them have again. I floated down, smiling despite the pain, because I was finally doing it. Through the trials and tribulations of my life, the ocean had always been a comfort to me. I had always known I wanted to die here, far away from the people and places that had caused me so much pain. My clothes stuffed with rocks, I sank quickly, faster than I had expected.

My vision began to blur. Through the clear water I swore I saw an Atlantis-like city. My oxygen deprived thoughts grew before me. Rainbow fish swam between the pillars. I felt something pass behind me. It whipped about, doing lazy circles around my descending body. A sea turtle. 

It was a magnificent sight. The whole city looked like one huge mansion with hundreds of doorways, rooms, and staircases carved into the stone. Even from a distance, I could see intricate patterns and emblems all over the buildings. The balconies and staircases came with spindly guard rails, as if to keep the fish from falling. Fifty foot towers loomed over a garden of colorful sea plants. There were rocks that looked strangely like tables and chairs arranged beside a series of pillars. 

A school of fish darted through the courtyard. They disappeared into the seaweed that had wrapped itself around the smaller columns on the ocean floor. Such a pretty hallucination. I thought as the spots clouded my vision. This is the end.

I felt my body land on the cool top of the stone gazebo, then I was gone.
